How Much Do Flowers Cost for A Wedding?
There are endless possibilities when it comes to wedding flowers! Whether you’re going for a minimalistic and elegant wedding or opting for an all-out celebration with a vibrant and bright palette, your wedding flowers are likely to be the key decorations and become one of the lovely things of your special day. Wedding ceremonies usually incorporate bridal bouquets, corsages, bouquets for bridesmaids, altar flowers, etc. Moving onto the reception, stunning blooms as centrepieces will greet your guests as these blooms serve great garlands and even on your wedding cake.
Before you think about which flowers to choose, make sure to start with your wedding flower budget first. This way, you’ll have a better idea of the must-haves, wants and bits of traditional floral design that might not be necessary. However, how much do these flowers even cost? And which flower should you start with?
We’ll be listing down a few tips and tricks from loral and expert wedding planners to help you understand the average wedding flower costs.
Average Wedding Flower Cost Worldwide
The cost of wedding flowers can significantly vary as it depends on how many flowers you want, the types you’re looking for and if they’re in season or not. Estimated Cost for Wedding Flowers in Bali
If you’re planning a destination wedding in Bali, then the cost for wedding flowers may be significantly different from those in LA and any other regions in the US.
Bali’s most affordable flowers and decoration packages based on local tropical flowers start at around $400. This may consist of the traditional coconut leaf arc, small standing flowers and flowers on the aisle with additional chairs for your guests. If you have more attendees of 20 or more guests, you may spend between $700 to $1000.
The cost above is the basic costs, mainly consisting of locally produced flowers. If you’re looking to get some imported flowers, you’ll need to prepare to double the amount, ranging up to $2000. However, vendors or florists may also charge $8000 and even $10,000 for flowers and decors – so don’t be surprised! This is for you looking for a themed color with imported colors and more than 100 – 200 guests with a giant flower arc with garlands for the altar.
Why are Wedding Flowers So Expensive?
Looking at our list above, you might wonder why these blooms carry such hefty fees? Well, there are a couple of reasons why wedding flowers can be highly pricey.
1. You’re Not Only Buying Flowers but Also Product and Service
Your florist requires an extensive amount of time to craft your dream centerpieces. When buying wedding flowers, you’re paying for the entire service and final product and the labor that’s included! It’s all worth it, though, as a wedding florist’s expertise is valuable, and there’s a reason why we call them the ‘pros.’
You should consider other things that are included in a floral business as well. This includes storage, transportation and supplies, all of which are also included in the overhead cost.
2. The Type of Flowers
Even though some flowers may cost one or two dollars a stem, like the chrysanthemums, others can cost over 5 dollars, such as the garden roses. It doesn’t matter how luxurious the most expensive flowers seem to be, and you can indeed find flowers that are just as gorgeous and fit your price range (This includes the chrysanthemums, which are still beautiful).
Also, remember that florists usually need to order special flowers from different parts of the world. For example, it’s hard to find lilies of the valley in the US as they’re only available outside greenhouses in May for two to three weeks. But even when they are in season, these lilies are still expensive for wedding bouquets and decorations as the flowers are so tiny that florists need a bunch of them just to make a small bouquet. They also have fragile stems and droop instantly, so they’re not exactly practical for wedding bouquets. However, if you have a strong desire for them, consider getting a few of them for your bouquet and filling the rest with more affordable blooms like Stephanotis, Casablanca lilies or freesia.
3. Assembling the Wedding Flowers at Your Ceremony
Besides planning your reception and ceremony floral designs, wedding florists also need to prepare all the stands and containers that you may need for the big day. This includes soaking the floral foams.
Some floral displays may need to be placed a few days before the wedding day. Of course, this depends on your flower choice. The flowers need to be stored and placed where they won’t be damaged or affected by extreme temperatures. However, some designs may need to be assembled on the day of your wedding.
4. The Flower Delivery
Your florist may need to deliver your flowers prior to your wedding day to your wedding venue. However, some hotels don’t allow setups until a few hours before the ceremony.
This may include arranging the florals, which requires extra staff to ensure everything goes smoothly. Bridal bouquets are usually transported in a specialized Floral Box so that they won’t get damaged during stops and so you can continue storing them during the ceremony when it’s not in use.
